The Khurasan chapter of Islamic State has claimed the responsibility for the killing of Mulla Daud. According to BBC. Mulla Daud was residing in a refugee camp near Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar. The vehicle of Mulla Daud was attacked by unknown riders in the suburbs of Peshawar.

Mulla Daud succumbed to his injuries along with his driver. The attacker then fled the scene. BBC quoted Taliban as confirming that one of their senior leaders has been shot dead. Mulla Daud remained the Governor of Kabul province in the Taliban era. Afghan sources alleged that Mulla Daud was the member of the Peshawar Shura.
